There was a time when you didn't take your phone or iPad to bed. Many people assume that habits are a sign of poor discipline or lack of willpower. But in reality, habits are learned behavioural patterns that the brain creates to save energy and increase efficiency. Once a behaviour is repeated enough times in a specific context, it becomes automatic — meaning it can happen before you even consciously think about it.
